As I love new twists and innovations, my influences and inspirations tend to change as I discover new artists, and artwork. However, at the core are a few artists and influences which often tend to find their way into my works and interpretations of references:
Maxfield Parrish: I love how he captures light and uses this to bring his subjects into the composition;the Pre-Raphaelites, in particular Waterhouse and Rossetti: the detail, composition, and romanticism of their works are both uplifting and inspiringRenaissance and post renaissance painters, particularly their mastery with oilsthe Impressionists particularly Monet, and Renoir, the styles of the art deco era, and artists such as Tamara de LempickaJames Tissot: the detail and realism of his paintings are extraordinary;Surrealists, particularly women surrealists such as Kahlo, Fini, and Tanningthe highly detailed technical pen cartoons from the first decade of MAD magazine;anime artwork, art deco design, and colour choiceModern painters such as Edward B. Gordon, Julian Merrow-Smith, and the oil sketches of Dorian Vallejo
More recently I have been influenced by the styles, skill and techniques of more classical masters such as John Singer-Sargent, Fragonard, Reynolds, and Ingres
However, I am still influenced by and aspire to the skill and style of more contemporary artists such as Mark Ryden, and David Stoupakis, as well as many as many works originating from artist trained at the Laguna College of Art & Design
