Picarto.biz - art by Antonia Luz Ines

First of all, how do you pronounce my name? Luz is pronounced Looth (rhymes with Ruth), and Ines is pronounced ee-ness. What does my name mean? - literally 'priceless pure light'. I think that's a great name for an artist.

I have been told by other artists that I am a visual artist, though I find this can be too limiting. For me, art exists everywhere - whether I'm re-landscaping the garden, remodelling the kitchen, or updating interior decor. Always there are decisions and judgements which involve aesthetics and relationships of colour, shape, light, pattern, and form.

I do not restrict myself to any one media. Often, the media I should use is dictated to me by the image in my mind's eye which I wish to create. I believe artists should be free to use all the possible media available to them. Look at the three self portraits to the right - one photographic, one in pencil, and one in pastels. They are all very different, visually and emotively - you could not have achieved these effects by restricting yourself to one media.

I am largely self-taught though have some wonderful artist friends who are extremely talented, and in some cases have trained in recognised fine art academies overseas. I highly value their feedback and occasional tuition.

At the moment I am creating artwork towards a self-imposed goal of a first solo exhibition, though have already exhibited in a number of Arts exhibitions in 2009 and 2010, and have already won one
